By JEFFERSON CITY (AP) The head of the community college hospital for the elderly is asking lawmakers to expand access to the facility.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking opioid overdose deaths among community hospitals in states like New York and New Jersey.
Its report, released Tuesday, says community hospitals are also at high risk of becoming sites for the drug.
The CDC says that nearly 20% of the people in nursing homes who are dying are at home.
It’s one of several measures that have been proposed to combat opioid abuse in the U.K., where the rate of opioid overdoses has been soaring in recent years.
